The Wood Fired Heart Vase was made by hand on the potters wheel, and was glazed by the natural ash depositing as a result of the firing process. This vase was fired for seven days, by a crew of ten people, in a large wood fired anagama kiln, and is a beautiful demonstration of how the ash reacts to round surfaces and the dramatic varieties of colors and textures that comes with that. The alterations in color are defined by this movement of atmosphere and wood ash through the kiln, which deposits itself as glass on the surface of the pot. As it deposits in layers with every addition of wood to the kiln, it builds up unevenly across the varying surfaces of the pot and creates a wonderful assortment of colors and textures.
